over April and May 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s what I found:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"size\">The size of the conversation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I used <a href=\"https:\/\/brand24.com\/blog\/time-saving-filters-that-every-social-listening-tool-should-have\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Smart Context Search<\/a> filter to focus only on marketing-related mentions, like tool reviews, expert advice, or general topic discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s what the filtered dataset looked like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1,099 mentions<\/strong> in a marketing\/tools context over 30 days (April 25 \u2013 May 25, 2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>4.09M combined reach<\/strong>, meaning that&#8217;s how many people could have seen this conversation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>85% of mentions have a neutral sentiment<\/strong>, but the rest is heavily positive (12.2% positive vs. only 2.8% negative).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>12.5:1 positive-to-negative ratio<\/strong>: when marketers talk about monitoring, for every one person complaining, there are almost 13 others saying something positive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"frustrates\">What frustrates marketers most<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I went through the negative and critical mentions and spotted some clear trends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>10 pain points<\/strong> that people keep bringing up in online discussions about social media monitoring are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>&nbsp;Cost and pricing of some tools<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>most frequently cited frustration<\/strong>. Enterprise tools range from $249\/month (Brand24) to $800+\/month (Talkwalker) to $30K+\/year for predictive platforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For smaller teams, it\u2019s <strong>a constant struggle <\/strong>to justify the cost versus the value they get.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. There are tools that monitor but don&#8217;t listen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As one expert said, <em>&#8220;Social media monitoring tells you the score. Teams have a reactive-only mindset<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are examples of posts that <strong>call out teams that only pull out monitoring data when a crisis hits<\/strong> and are defining them as <em>&#8220;already too late.&#8221; <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These discussions say that the value of monitoring is in continuous, proactive use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Brands have no social media monitoring team at all<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is a real infrastructure problem.
