{"id":107510,"date":"2017-06-16T14:35:12","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T13:35:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brand24.com\/blog\/?p=107510"},"modified":"2026-04-13T16:03:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T14:03:14","slug":"are-fidget-spinners-ruining-the-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brand24.com\/blog\/are-fidget-spinners-ruining-the-internet\/","title":{"rendered":"Are Fidget Spinners Ruining the Internet?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>You go to your local store, you see fidget spinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You scroll your Facebook wall, you see fidget spinners from your friends or in the news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You go on the subway, kids are playing with fidget spinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You travel on the public transport, students talk where they can get the best price on fidget spinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You read the news, you find out a man rushed to the hospital with a fidget spinner in his anus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You read on the news that some cheap spinners may contain dangerous amounts of lead and mercury:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Rubin, an independent lead poisoning prevention advocate, first tested three fidget spinners sent to her by a friend with an XRF instrument. Two were lead-free, but one had very high levels of lead and some mercury. She then disassembled a fidget spinner with LED lights and found both lead and mercury. She found 19,000 parts per million (ppm) of lead and 1,000 ppm of mercury.<\/p><p>These numbers are sobering because scientists consider under 90 ppm of lead to be the safe threshold in children\u2019s toys, according to Rubin. But the paint on the LED light spinner contained 334 ppm of lead and 155 ppm of mercury in one test. She invented a different kind of a spinning toy.<\/li><li>There\u2019s no scientific evidence that fidget spinners cure PTSD or ADHD.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Fidget spinner is that toy that spins. And spins, and spins, and spins, and helps relax. We could end here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s become extremely popular not only among children but also among adults who pushed it to another level and started making spinners out of luxurious materials. Why it&#8217;s so popular? There might be a couple of explanations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Spinners are an effective fidget toy, they help in stressful situations<\/li><li>They are available in numerous designs.<\/li><li>They are easily portable.<\/li><li>They are suitable for kids, students and adults.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Fidget spinners have entered almost every sphere of life which also has a significant effect on the Internet and the content inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personally and half-jokingly, I feel like half of the Internet is made of the fidget spinner content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trend<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s interesting, the trend that has started in April or May and it\u2019s still on. Using social <a href=\"https:\/\/brand24.com\/blog\/what-is-media-monitoring-and-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media monitoring<\/a>, we had a look at the number of mentions of \u201cfidget spinner\u201d on the Internet and the engagement it drives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, within the last 7 days \u201cfidget spinner\u201d has been mentioned 90 742 times. The majority of fidget spinner videos is about <strong>unboxings<\/strong>, <strong>challenges<\/strong>, <strong>tricks<\/strong>, <strong>fidget spinner vs something<\/strong> and <strong>99999+ RPM fidget spinners<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unboxing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Pretty self-explanatory: people unbox fidget spinners, describe them, point out advantages and disadvantages.
