Where does Brand24 collect mentions from and how broad is the data coverage?

Brand24 gathers mentions from a wide variety of sources - including social media platforms (like Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, TikTok), news sites, blogs, forums, podcasts, and other publicly available websites.

Keep in mind that data coverage depends on each platform’s data-sharing policy, so some sources may have limitations.

Does Brand24 provide historical data?

By default, we collect data from up to 30 days before your project start date. This gives you a sample set to get started. Some sources may be more complete than others, depending on their policies.

If you need access to older data, reach out to our Support Team - in special cases, we can offer a custom solution tailored to your needs. Read more > Does Brand24 collect historical data?

What are keyword and mention limits in Brand24?

Each plan has its own limit of active keywords and monthly mentions. Your keyword limit refers to how many keywords can be actively tracked at the same time - not how many times you use them. If necessary, you can remove and replace your keywords anytime, as long as you stay within the active limit.

Example: If your plan allows 5 keywords, you can track any 5 at once - and switch them if you need.

Mentions refer to the number of results we collect for your keywords each month. Once you reach the limit, we’ll pause new data collection until the next billing cycle (unless you upgrade).

How to use required or excluded keywords?

Required and excluded keywords help you filter results and focus on what really matters.

For example, if you're tracking "Apple" but want to avoid mentions about the fruit, you can add required keywords like "Mac" or "iPhone". Brand24 will then collect mentions that include both "Apple" and one of those terms.

To monitor different combinations, enter each one on a separate line:

  • Apple Mac
  • Apple iPhone

This setup collects mentions that contain either "Apple & Mac" or "Apple & iPhone". These keywords can appear anywhere in the same post - they don’t have to be side by side. If you want to monitor phrases that appear together (e.g., "Apple Mac"), use quotation marks.

Important:

  • One line = one keyword = one individual monitoring request. Each line counts toward your keyword limit.
  • Multiple words on the same line work as AND; each new line works as OR.
  • Excluded keywords work the same way - any mention containing them will be filtered out.

Use this feature to refine your results, but keep in mind that too many combinations can limit the data you collect.

How can I prevent non-relevant mentions in my Brand24 project?

Brand24 tracks all mentions of your keywords, which sometimes includes content that's not relevant to your brand. To keep your results clean and focused, try the following:

  • Use required and excluded keywords - Add terms that must or must not appear in a mention to fine-tune your results.
  • Apply Boolean search - Use AND, OR, and NOT operators to define exactly what you want to track.
  • Use AI Topic Analysis - Remove irrelevant topics and find keywords to exclude based on topic word clouds.
  • Mute authors or domains - Block mentions from specific sources that regularly produce irrelevant content.
  • Exclude entire sources - Disable entire content types like forums or videos if they're not useful for your project.
  • Set geolocation and language filters - Exclude mentions from specific countries or in unwanted languages.
  • Filter by Influence Score - Focus on more impactful mentions by filtering out low-visibility posts.
  • Use the Intent filter - Automatically filter out mentions marked as spam or irrelevant based on intent.

A well-set and cleaned-up project is key - it’s basically your main input in Brand24. Once you get that right, you’ve done most of the work. The rest of the analysis takes care of itself.
